Nick Melillo has quite an unusual tale for being one of the predominant blenders in the cigar industry. He is a home grown Connecticut man who went from retail work to being the top blender with Drew Estate, creating some of the worlds most well-known cigars including the Liga Privada. Now out on his own, Nicks Foundation cigars keeps producing highly rated, top of the line products. His original release, El Gueguense, received an incredibly high rating and was placed on the top 25 cigars year. Last year, we saw the highly anticipated release of the sequel, the Wise Man Maduro.

This is one of my favorite cigars Nick has ever crafted, that includes his work with Drew Estate. It is a box pressed gem, using aged Nicaraguan filler and binder tobaccos, including a Corojo binder. Its finishing touch is a slightly toothy Mexican San Andres wrapper that is absolutely flawless. Each puff delivers solid notes of cocoa, sweet spice, coffee and leather.

The burn on one of these bad boys is tight and strong, with no touchups required and a solid white ash. While im a fan of every size, I find the Corona Gorda to smoke particularly good. Like many of the Foundation cigars, they are made in limited quantities, so you should definitely pick them up while you can!
