The History Of Nomad Cigars & The Four Cigar Line ReleasesFred Rewey created Nomad Cigars back in January 2012, and after its initial launch it took a while before the boutique got going at full speed. Now, though, it has reached a comfortable pace with its releases and has managed to hold onto its original vision even while gathering momentum. When Rewey created his brand, he focused on three things to set it apart. For one, Rewey decided not to enter the industry unless he had something new to offer, so his company focuses on creating unique tobacco experiences and not falling into the comfortable. Second, the boutique prioritizes affordability and attempts to strike a perfect balance between economy and quality. Third, the company wants to make an experience out of every release, and not just create blends without context or enjoyment.

Nomad Cigars released their first blend with the start of the company back in January 2012 and has produced several since. The initial release, known as the Renegade, is made with an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper, a Dominican binder, and Dominican fillers. It’s a medium brown smoke with medium veining, and the cold draw offers brown sugar along with wood and spice notes. Once lit, the stick’s flavors include some spice, cream, wood, cherry pepper and a flavor some reviewers described as grilled hot dogs.

The S-307 was the company’s next foray, and it is rolled with an Ecuadorian Sumatran wrapper, an Ecuadorian Habano binder and fillers from Nicaragua. The wrapper is the color of milk chocolate though there is some Colorado red tinting it a bit. It’s a dry wrapper, but it’s also smooth. The blend’s flavors include some earth, pepper, walnut, baker’s spice and sweet raisin. Reviewers consider it a classic medium body, medium strength stick, as it is perfectly balanced.

Nomad Cigars released the Connecticut in March 2014, and unsurprisingly, it is blended with an Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper, an Ecuadorian Habano binder and fillers from Nicaragua and the Dominican. It’s a light tan wrapper with a little oil and a lot of smoothness. It evokes cinnamon, cream, nuts, vanilla, pepper and spice. Though it’s on the mild side strength wise, most aficionados consider it a full-bodied smoke.

The C-276 is the fourth release through the Nomad Cigars. This cigar is created with an Ecuadorian Habano Oscuro wrapper, a Nicaraguan binder and five Nicaraguan fillers, including one from Ometepe and a pair of ligeros from Esteli and Condega. It’s a box-pressed stick that’s the color of mahogany and has just a bit of veining. Its flavors include milk chocolate, cedar, floral, black pepper, and nuts. Throughout the smoke, there is a fine balance between spice and sweet. And overall, it’s a medium-full stogie that keeps the spice from getting too powerful.

Rewey has regularly talked about how much he has had to learn on the job to run a successful boutique. Fortunately, he appears to be a quick learner.
