Review Of The EP Carrillo Re+United Limited Edition CigarA limited edition joint venture between EP Carrillo and Michael Giannini, the Re+United, marks the reunion of these two gentlemen working together again. They both used to work at General Cigar Company together until Ernesto left to start his own company (EPC). They decided on the project after running into each other at a hotel. The tobaccos are from both companies, yet rolled and distributed by Ernesto’s company.

The cigar comes in one vitola – a 6 ½ x 54 Toro. They come in boxes of ten, but you must hurry; they are only making 1,500 boxes. This particular stogie features an Ecuadorian Havana wrapper from General, a Connecticut Broadleaf binder from EPC, and a blend of Dominican Piloto Cubano from General and Nicaraguan Jalapa from EPC. The Ecuadorian wrapper is an eighth priming Havana leaf that is quite difficult to get, so you can see why this beauty is limited edition. The cigar is nicely constructed, of course, with a rose-tinted coffee colored wrapper. The simplistic gold band has the makers’ initials embossed on it.

Michael Giannini and EP Carrillo outdid themselves with the Re+United. Aficionados stated the pre-draw notes held traces of a spicy, berry cream flavor. The start of the cigar was a mix of peppery cedar and spice before dissipating slightly to let the sweet berry cream flavor emerge. On the retro-hale, the cedar and pepper are more pronounced. The second-third brought about a smooth tobacco flavor with hints of cream and spice. The final third kicked up the strength and flavor profile a bit. The pepper was a dominant flavor with added earthy wooden note. The sweet berry note diminished to a mere secondary flavor.

Some reviewers remarked that the cigar had the right amount of zing to make it a medium to full-bodied stogie. The burn rate was good with an even line, nice silvery ash, and an excellent draw. When two industry giants like this come together, you know the end product is going to be amazing. The MP Giannini and EP Carrillo collaboration of Re+United does not disappoint. Let’s hope they decide to join creative forces again the near future.
