Carlos Torano Roots Run Deep CigarsThe Carlos Torano Roots Run Deep Cigar is a limited release smoke that was crafted specifically for the tour of the same name. Only a few dozen shops across the nation were graced with boxes to sell, because they were exclusively offered to locations that hosted the tour.

The first run of the Roots Run Deep Tour was conducted in 2009. The initial version of this smoke was offered as a Toro 6” x 50. The stogie from the next year used the same blend of leaves from before, but the 2010 Carlos Torano Roots Run Deep Cigar was offered in a 7” x 48 Churchill vitola, with no new Toros being made available.

The Carlos Torano Roots Run Deep Cigar and Tours are a nod to their heritage; acknowledging and celebrating their decades of hard work and Cuban origins. Their beginnings reach back to 1916, and today this family-run business is known by cigar enthusiasts for their authenticity, quality and delicious blends. These tours featured excellent deals on Torano smokes, free t-shirts, and raffles with prizes, as well as Cuban music, food and atmosphere. They offered the unique opportunity to meet Charlie Toranoa and Felipe Sosa, two of the men who help maintain the integrity of cigar making today. The impressive rolling talents of Felipe Sosa were put to use at the event, with him hand rolling smokes on site for lucky individuals. This stick is not mentioned on the Torano website, and they are still not widely available for sale as the tours were the only times that they were made available to the public.

Everything that went into the Tour Blend was carefully and purposefully chosen. The wrapper is considered so valuable that they constructed a specialized box to facilitate its unharmed transport from site to site during the tours. The wrapper is Cuban seed, but shade grown in Nicaragua. Exposure to direct sunlight has the tendency to make leaves tough and coarse, but the practice of shielding the growing tobacco with translucent cloth results in leaves that are thinner, smoother, more flexible and lighter in color. Its binder is made of Cameroon tobacco. This is a special detail because leaves from Cameroon are usually used for wrappers, and this use of the tobacco allows the binder to lend hints of sweet spice to the smoke. Both the Pueblo Nuevo and Esteli, Jalapa regions of Nicaragua provided some of their finest tobaccos to constitute the filler.

The Carlos Torano Roots Run Deep Cigar is considered medium to full bodied. It is a handsome stick, with a smooth wrapper and a flavor that is rich. In the few places that they are available they can be found in cedar boxes of 20. Their scarcity has resulted in a dearth of reviews, but common consensus is that this smoke is a gem. The Carlos Torano Roots Run Deep Cigar, also known as the Tour Blend, has evidence of its superlative nature found in every aspect of its appearance, complexity of the blend, caliber of tobacco, construction, flavor profile, draw, aroma, smoke production, ash quality, burn line, and ease to light.
