The Camacho Ditka 89 Cigar Represents The Chicago BearsThe Camacho Ditka 89 line is the company’s fifth cigar in its series of tribute lines to Mike Ditka. This particular stogie represents Ditka’s jersey number when he played as a Tight End for the Chicago Bears. They released these cigars on December 9, 2013 to celebrate Iron Mike’s jersey retirement ceremony. Ditka has been a brand ambassador for Camacho since 2012, and the partnership is obviously thriving. The new line fits in nicely with the company’s “Bold Standard” of smokes that are unapologetically intense.

Only produced in the thick-bodied Toro (6 x 50), the Camacho Ditka 89 is stout and solid like Iron Mike himself. The cigar features a dark, caramel colored San Andres Maduro wrapper with a Nicaraguan binder encircling the bold blend of Dominican and Honduran fillers. Each cigar is wrapped in the box maximizing both their flavor and freshness. Reviewers have stated that this is a well-constructed stogie with minimal veining and hidden seams. During the pre-light draw, there are notes of chocolate, earth, hints of pepper, and tobacco. After lighting, the first-third began with a blast of peppery earthiness. The taste profile develops quickly, and the pepper and earth combine with creamy, chocolate and tobacco flavors. Overall, the first-third is not dominated by any one particular flavor, but a delicious blend of them all. The retro-hale had a kick from the red pepper spice. The second-third is predominantly earthy with the pepper taking a backseat. A few reviewers noted the background flavors of chocolate, cream, and tobacco. During the last third, the cream and tobacco notes disappear, and the earth and pepper flavors boost the strength of the cigar. The burn line is pretty even with a firm ash and minimal flaking. Reviewers stated the draw to be nicely balanced – not too tight, not too loose. It is a low-maintenance cigar needing little to no touch-ups. Any aficionado will tell you that this is not a stogie for beginners. It is a medium-full bodied cigar that is a kick to the senses. It starts out at medium strength and by the final third; it has gone headfirst into full territory.

The Camacho Ditka 89 is a powerhouse of a stogie. It is a cigar with a surprising complexity of flavors that will knock the socks off your palate. Get one while you can though, the company is only producing 40,000 of these bold smokes. Join Iron Mike and be audacious, dauntless, and unapologetic and smoke the “Bold Standard” that is Camacho.
