AKA Solace CigarThe most recent addition to the AKA line, the AKA Solace cigar is a smoke that supplies a well balanced mix of flavors for a reasonable price. This American company makes their products in a factory in Danli, Honduras and takes pride in providing interesting tobacco blends with quality construction in order to compete with traditional Cuban cigars. The smokes created from this boutique company are enjoyable to enthusiasts everywhere, even though the business is fairly young, having been created in 2010.

The smoke comes enveloped in a smooth, shade-grown Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper with a light toothiness that has been gently aged for 4 years. The Solace is the first instance of AKA using a Connecticut wrapper. Many reviewers expressed how pleasantly surprised they were over how this smoke differed from their expectations of a Connecticut. They were impressed with the spice and how it added to the flavor profile. The other tobaccos in this smoke have also been aged for an average of 4 to 5 years and consist of a binder that is composed of a Honduran Criollo and high quality triple filler that is a blend of Dominican and Honduran tobaccos.

The solid, hand rolled construction of the AKA Solace cigar yields no soft spots and produces a satisfying amount of smoke according to reviews. This is a stogie that features excellent ash qualities and an even burn, and it exhibits an easy cold draw that contains hints of earth, sweet hay, and tobacco.

Once lit, it was said to begin with a strong white pepper in the retrohale that is courtesy of the Connecticut wrapper. This peppery kick enhances the satisfying creaminess of the other flavors this smoke offers. The first third is heavy on the spice, but that quickly mellows to feature a subtle grassiness instead. This stick is smooth and builds in complexity throughout the duration of the smoke, without any one flavor overwhelming the others. There are hints of coffee, chocolate, and toasted marshmallow that blend to create a creaminess that is unlike any other. Although the spice dies down during the second third of the smoke, it makes a welcomed reappearance in the final third.

The AKA Solace cigar rounds out the company’s lineup by providing a mild to medium body; the Hybrid is medium bodied, and the Respect is full bodied. Although the AKA Solace cigar is classified as ranging from mild to medium bodied, those that prefer a mild smoke might find the spice in the retrohale a bit strong.

The AKA Solace cigar comes in 7 sizes, each with its own name that corresponds to traditional vitolas: “Bliss” Petit Corona (4.5” x 42), “Destiny” Corona (6” x 44), “Serenity” Rothchild (4.5” x 52), “Cloud Nine” Robusto (5.5” x 50), “7th Heaven” Churchill (7.25” x 50) , “Peace” Super Toro (6.5” x 54), and “Elation” Titan (6”x60). They are all available in sets of 18, with the exception of the Bliss, which comes in sets of 24.

These cigars were commended as a morning smoke, and since they are on the more affordable side of pricing, can be paired with coffee every day. This offering was met with favorable reviews and enthusiasm; those that are interested in a new experience with the Connecticut wrapper are encouraged to give this cigar a try.
