The Anoranzas Oscuro is an affordable Nicaraguan puro with deep rich flavor. In July of 2012 the Anoranzas Oscuro, created by Miami Cigar & Company, was debuted at the International Premium Cigar and Pipe Retailers (IPCPR) Trade Show. Anoranzas is a word that translates as ‘longing’, but may better be understood as ‘nostalgia’. Since this smoke was meant to be a seamless blend of new traditions with a focus on classic cigar values, it is an extremely fitting name. Oscuro refers to the dark color of the Nicaraguan Habano wrapper, which tend to have strong, rich flavor characteristics. This cigar features a dual Nicaraguan binder, as well as Nicaraguan filler. Since all the tobaccos used in its construction are grown in the same country, this cigar is classified as a Puro.

The Anoranzas Oscuro is a handmade cigar rolled in Nicaragua, at the My Father Factory. The soft box press packaging makes them squarer than round, but leaves them without the harsh edges of normal box press. Available in boxes of 10 and 20, they are available in only four vitolas, each with its own unique combination of length and ring gauge. Those sizes are as follows: Robusto (5” x 50), Toro (6” x 52), Gran Toro (6” x 60), and the Belicoso (6 ½” x 54).

Cigar reviews report the balance of flavors are just right; a blend of natural notes and spice that evolves throughout the course of the stogie. The unlit scent from the foot of this cigar is reminiscent of hay and cedar, with an ever present tobacco undertone. The cold draw reaffirms the presence of cedar but also introduces nuttiness. The lit cigar presents spice through the nose. The first-third features the flavor of roasted nuts and a hint of licorice. The second-third ushers in a leather note paired with a faint creamy sweetness. Reviewers also noted that there are elusive touches of citrus. The final third was described as the smoothest.

Those who smoked this cigar found it to have medium strength. They described the smoke production as impressive and more than expected. One of the characteristics that reviewers found most striking about this cigar was how white the ash was. Being so firm, clinging, and pale, the ash in contrast to the dark wrapper was a pleasant visual noted by multiple smokers.

All in all, the Anoranzas Oscuro was deemed a pleasant taste experience for a wallet-friendly cost. Triple capped, toothy, with rich scents, and a finish that lingers, this Nicaraguan cigar tastes as good as it looks. It is a quality one to try.
