La Gloria Cubana Serie R LimitadaThe La Gloria Cubana Serie R Limitada cigars are limited release cigars made by the master cigar creator himself, Ernesto Perez-Carrillo, Jr. With the wildly successful release of the Serie R, Ernesto decided to pay homage to them by creating the La Gloria Cubana Serie R Limitada line. The line was first released in 2003. These La Gloria Cubana cigars are made in limited quantities each year. Each line that is released carries with it, its own tobacco blend and size that will never be revisited. They are all made with Dominican and Nicaraguan filler and Nicaraguan binder. Depending on the year, some releases only offer the Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper. Other releases offer the Ecuadorian Sumatra and the Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper. Typically, the line that is released for that year is released early in the year and then production is stopped at the end of the year.

The La Gloria Cubana Serie R Limitada 2003 was released in the size of 6 ½ inch x 64 ring gauge. The 2004 is 7 ¼ x 60, 2005 is 7 ¾ x 62,and the 2006 is 7 ¾ x 63. Each year the cigars are placed in a custom humidor and sold only in these boxes. 2003 offered a release of 1000 boxes. It was a combination of 500 natural and 500 maduro cigars. 2004 released 500 boxes of natural and 500 boxes of maduro as well. 2005 was a celebratory year marking the 7-year anniversary of this fabulous line, so there was a production of 700 natural boxes and 700 maduro boxes. In 2006, they released 21,000 cigars in both the natural and maduro.

When they released the La Gloria Cubana Serie R Limitada in 2007, it was a large release. It was a reflection on all the past success of the previous Serie R cigars. It also marked the final release of this series. Each series of cigars has its own drawer. This release carries the Serie R from 2003, 2004, 2005, and 2006. They also decided to include a never before released cigar from 2002, called the 2002 Especiale. This exceptional line is called the La Gloria Cubana Serie R Limitada Retrospectivo 2007. The humidor contains 100 cigars, offering 20 cigars from each of the previous five years with 10 each of the natural and maduro. There were only 500 humidors made.

Since these sticks are a limited production, lets take a look at two of the releases to get a taste of what to expect. The 2004 maduro wrapper is a dark mocha color. It is visually flawless. It feels firm and there are no soft spots. The draw on this is nice and smooth. This is a complex cigar with rich flavor. This cigar has a rich blend of roasted coffee beans and a sweetness of tobacco. The ash is a salt and pepper color. The burn is even and it produces a lot of smoke.

The 2005 release has a dark chocolate colored wrapper. It has some veins that are visible, but they are very small. It has a very solid feel to it. The draw is a bit firm, but loosens well into the first third. This is also a full body cigar with flavors of coffee and tobacco, with hints of nuts. The burn is straight and it produces clouds of creamy smoke. The ash is a medium gray color and holds firm.

The La Gloria Cubana Serie R Limitada line of cigars are a must have in your personal humidor. Most would agree that some time spent in the humidor only enhances the flavor and experience of these cigars. These are also noted to be full body smokes and best appreciated by a seasoned cigar aficionado.
