Buy Raices Cubanas Original Gordo Cigars OnlineThe Raices Cubanas is a stogie that celebrates the factory it is made in, the Fabrica de Tabacos Raices Cubanas S. de R. L. With smokers focused on brand identity more than ever, the factories that are responsible for crafting the sticks they enjoy are often forgotten. These facilities are often not given a thought, even though they house the rollers and bunchers that are so valuable to the process. Calling attention to one of the most respected factories in the industry, this stick looks to correct that.

It is available in four sizes, including Robusto (5 1/4 x 52), Toro (6 x 54), Gordo (6 x 60) and Churchill (7 x 50). This stogie comes with a Honduran wrapper, a Nicaraguan binder and fillers from Nicaragua and Honduras. Medium brown in color, the wrapper has an oily sheen. With just a little veining, the stick is finished with a sharp triple cap. The classic-looking band is red, gold, black and white and features the name of the stick amid some gold ornamentation. The pre-light draw consists of some strong pepper with some sweet syrup notes.

The initial third of the smoke produces a strong punch of white pepper that is apparent from the tip of the tongue to the retrohale. It is noticeable in every draw, but still manages to remain smooth through the finish. The pepper is the sole actor until the half-inch point, when a complex set of creamy notes emerge to dominate the flavor. Near the end of the initial third, a taste of cereal grains shows up giving the stick a lot more body. Some reviewers also detected a slightly sweet butter toffee flavor.

During the second third of the stick, it moves from a lighter, breakfast smoke to a stronger blend that’s more appropriate after lunch or dinner. The white pepper switches to a black pepper flavor, providing more punch and spice. Some earthy notes appear that give the blend some additional depth. However, the cream and cereal grain flavors are still present and keep the stick in a sweet zone.

The final third of the Raices Cubanas takes another step up in terms of body and strength. The sweet flavors soon fade out in the last third and are replaced by a more intense black pepper and a strong earth taste. The only other apparent flavor in this part of the stogie is leather, but reviewers stated that they enjoyed the deep, strong finish, which is not unlike a stew. This hearty base gives the smoke a flavor combination that is fairly rare, but very delectable.

This smoke is officially medium bodied and medium in strength, but there is a great deal of variance between the initial mild third and the near full strength at the end. This makes it an adventure. Coupled with the excellent burn and draw, it is clear why this factory deserves a nod in its direction.
