The PsyKo Seven cigar is a new release from Ventura Co., one of the newest popular brands on the market. During its brief time in the industry, Ventura has done an excellent job of attracting attention and this stogie takes it even further. Released at the 2013 IPCPR Trade Show along with another blend by Ventura, the Project 805, this smoke combines bold looks and bold tastes. It was created by the respected Henke Kelner and produced at the Tabadom factory in the Dominican Republic, making this smoke a visually striking, flavor bombing treat.

PsyKo Seven Cigars received rave reviews at .the 2013 IPCPR

This cigar is available in four vitolas, including Gordito (4 x 58), Robusto (5 1/2 x 50), Gordo (6 x 60) and Toro (6 1/2 x 48). It is medium brown in color with some reddish hues and has just a few thin veins. The seams are hard to see and the smoke is covered in a healthy oily veneer. The pre-light notes consist of some earth, nuts, coffee, grass, cedar and spice.

What really makes the stick stand out, though, is its creative labeling. It comes double banded, though they are actually placed on top of each other, so the secondary band is only visible when the primary band is removed. The primary band is designed like a prescription scrip and features a number of parody nicknames associated with employees at Ventura. It is a detailed band that warrants a close look. Under it is a shard secondary band that features the name of the smoke in off-kilter lettering.

The initial third of the PsyKo Seven cigar starts off with some strong cedar notes, which dial back after several puffs. As they do, reviewers note a combination of grass, nuts, spice and savory flavors emerge and are balanced well, with no one note taking over the profile. Before long, though, the savory notes transition into something similar to steak and take on the lead role in the profile. The grass, nuts and cedar move into the background where they provide an interesting contrast to the steak flavor.

During the second-third of the stogie, the steak taste is still the strongest actor. The nuts, hay and cedar flavors are still present in the background. Over the course of the second-third, aficionados found that the steak flavor developed strongly, with the smoke taking on a buttery texture.

In the final third of the PsyKo Seven cigar, the steak flavor fades back into the rest of the notes. The nuts and hay are the strongest during this part of the cigar, with the cedar becoming more of a subtle accent. There is a touch of spice on the profile, as well, though it ends off extremely smooth.

There isn’t a weak spot anywhere in this smoke. Reviewers were blown away by its construction and it earned high marks for its burn and draw performance. The flavors are interesting and unusual, but well executed. Several reviewers agreed that this was their favorite blend from the 2013 IPCPR, so enthusiasts looking for the next big thing in the industry may be able to find it with this cigar.
