Padron Classic CigarsPadron Classic cigars are handmade with long-aged Cuban seed tobaccos, and are all Nicaraguan puros.  The leaves are cultivated from the fertile soils of Estelí.  Padron Classic has sun grown Habano seed filler that is aged for two and a half years.  They are highly consistent due to their limited annual production (100,000 cigars per year), which keeps them at peak flavor.

Padron cigars were founded in 1964, being the oldest and most familiar line of cigars made to date. Jose Padron has 3 generations of cigar making in his blood.  His family has been making quality handmade cigars in Cuba since the late 1800’s.  He continues to hold every Padron cigar to the highest standard.

Today, the Padron Classic Cigars consist of fifteen medium to full-bodied long filler cigars:  2000 (robusto), 3000 (robusto extra), 4000 (Toro), 5000 (robusto extra), 6000 (torpedo), 7000 (super toro), Ambassador (panatela gorda), Churchill, Coricos (club corona), Delicias (corona gorda), Executive (double corona), Londres (corona), Magnum (president) Palmas (lonsdale) and the Panetelas.

The appearance of the 3000 Natural is rustic and rough which seems to be the common characteristic of the Padron Classic series.  Its milk chocolate colored wrapper is course and rather veiny, showing a slight box press.   It is darker than most natural wrapped cigars due to its use of sun grown Habano leaf.

Although the cap has been described as “sloppy”, it has a well formed flattened head which traditionally is a badge of Cuban craftsmanship.  Despite its “ugly” appearance, it seems to be a very well constructed cigar.  The ash stays firm; it has a good burn and excellent draw.  You can conveniently pick one of these up in our cigar shop.

The prelight aromas have a kind of barnyard scent of leather, hay, and earth.  Upon lighting, you are teased with a taste of pepper that quickly gives way to leather with a woody element and notes of coffee.  The 2nd third continues on with a predominately leather taste accompanied by a creamier smoke with shots of sweetness.

A little cocoa, some coffee, and a touch spice have been detected here.  In the final third, it grows in body to a medium-plus, but if you are used to a really powerful smoke, you might feel it becomes lighter than this.  The leather definitely dominates the taste buds throughout which make it pretty one-dimensional, but the flavors are really good.  It would make a great every day smoke.

Every Padron Classic cigar is hand rolled with love and is rich in Cuban history.  Jose Padron started his first cigar factory on just 600.00, putting everything he owned into his dream.  The first tobacco seeds he planted were from his stash he secretly put away on his flight from Cuba to the US.

Jose has no desire to be a cigar “giant” by using mass production and huge advertising campaigns. This modesty is shown in the appearance of his classic line, but don’t let that fool you.  These cigars are well constructed, and full of flavor.
