Purchase Juan Lopez Nicaraguan Seleccion No. 1 Cigars OnlineWhere do the Juan Lopez Nicaraguan cigars come from?

Altadis U.S.A. has been around since 1918 and is one of the most recognizable brands in the industry. It is also one of the largest, with factories and facilities in Honduras, the Dominican Republic, Florida, Virginia and Puerto Rico. This blend has been around for a while, but is one of Altadis’s lesser known stogies. It has received an update and is one of the company’s “Cuban Heritage” smokes. While it does come with a Cuban aesthetic, it is all Nicaraguan.

How are the Juan Lopez Nicaraguan cigars made?

This blend is a Nicaraguan puro, with wrapper, binder and fillers all coming from Nicaragua. The Habano wrapper comes with some veining and is milk chocolate in color. It is oily to the touch and features a gorgeous red, blue and gold band. The banding is similar to Cuban banding and features the name of the smoke and some intricate stamped ornamentation that looks like a work of art.

What flavors are in the Juan Lopez Nicaraguan cigars?

In the first-third of the stick is identical to the flavors found on the pre-light draw. They consist of some wood and a sweet fruit flavor. After about half an inch in, the wood and fruit are joined by some cream and pepper notes that make for balanced combination. There is no one dominant flavor in this part of the stogie. During the second-third, the balance continues between the smooth cream flavor and surging black pepper. The finish also produces some wood and sweet fruit notes. Near the end of the second-third, some gentle coffee and leather notes appear and create more depth in the profile. The last third of the stick is more of the same except that the cream notes disappear from the profile. It finishes off smooth and with a little heat.

While it is listed as a medium to full bodied stick, some reviewers considered it full-bodied. The strength of the smoke lagged behind the depth of the flavors.

What vitolas are these available in?

This stick comes in three sizes, including Seleccion No. 1 (5 x 54), Seleccion No. 2 (6 x 54) and Seleccion No. 3 (6 x 60)

How is the burn and draw on the Juan Lopez Nicaraguan cigars?

Altadis is known for its consistently strong construction, and this stick is no different. The burn and draw are both well above average and don’t infringe on the experience at all.

Altadis has produced many blends since the company’s foundation in the early 20th century. While this one hasn’t received as much attention as some of its more popular lines, with the flavor and aesthetic update this will likely change.
