Hoyo De Monterrey Excalibur CigarsBilled as being a rather spicy and aromatic offering, Hoyo de Monterrey Excalibur cigars is sure to put a smile on the face of any cigar smoking enthusiast. These Honduras smokes have a long legacy that began in the 1800’s in Cuba. The operation was moved to Honduras in 1969. Since then, they have been a favorite of connoisseurs everywhere. Perhaps this has a lot to do with the fact that these sticks come from the Villizon Factory and they are overseen by Estello Padron. The only way to top these smokes would be to travel to Cuba.

The Hoyo de Monterrey Excalibur cigars offer a medium to full flavored strength. There are four separate lines of this signature brand including the Cameroon, Legend, Dark Knight, Maduro and the Excalibur.

Those who offered reviews were dedicated to the Maduro. This smoke offers a Connecticut broadleaf tobacco as a wrapper and the binder is the same. The filler is a tobacco blend of Honduran, Nicaraguan and Dominican leaf. The one being reviewed has a size of 6 ¾ x 47. The wrapper is extremely oily to the eyes as well as when it is held in the hand. This particular choice of stick does not have a lot of visible veins and the skin is just a little on the knobby side. The entire body of the smoke seemed really well put together without any soft spots down the length of it. It was reviewed as being really heavy when weighed in the hand of the smoker.

Two of the first things that were noticed when smoking one of these Hoyo de Monterrey Excalibur cigars are the aroma and pre light taste. Cedar, earthiness and pepper are found in abundance even before putting the lighter to the smoke. After it is lit, there are other flavors that kick in while these are still ever present. A chocolaty coffee taste like that of a fine espresso enters the picture upon lighting while the earth and spice are still tagging along as much more than an afterthought. Throughout the smoke, the coffee flavor remained but changed to a nice sweetness towards the final third of the stick. In the final third of the Hoyo de Monterrey Excalibur cigars, the earthiness gave way to the coffee completely.

Sweetness like cocoa or mocha along with a creamy taste made the final third the one that most reviewers said they liked the most. There were even hints of cinnamon in the very end.

Anyone who is looking for a rich tobacco taste and full flavor profiles should definitely be considering Hoyo de Monterrey Excalibur cigars. These are available at a price point that is wallet friendly while tasting like those that cost a lot more and in some people’s opinions, they taste better than those that are more expensive. This is a great gift to give to family and friends or to stock in the humidor at home. These are sure to impress the most discerning smokers out there. Flavor, taste, aroma and great tobacco make for a winner!
