An Ortega Mini Cigar is a great tasting complete cigar for short smoking times. The Ortega Mini cigar is the solution to fully enjoying a smoke when time is short. Eddie Ortega created this small line of sticks to provide enthusiasts with the perfect stogie for limited breaks. In the past, aficionados have often had to extinguish and relight larger stogies at such times. Relighting a stogie is certainly not an ideal way to enjoy a blend. This line addresses that, requiring only 25 to 30 minutes of smoking time while still providing the progression of premium flavors that people appreciate from this prestigious brand.

Available in three wrappers, including Brazilian Cubra, Ecuadorian Connecticut or Honduran Habano, the binder is from Nicaragua while the filler plants are from the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua. The Ortega Mini cigar is only available in a single vitola, Mini Lancero (4 x 38). They range from light brown to dark chocolate in color depending on the wrapper, all of which have at least some slight veining to them. The Ecuadorian Connecticut is the smoothest in appearance, while the Honduran Habano has a rustic look and feel. Each comes with a simple band that features the name of the brand and stogie in white lettering on a light brown background. The cold draw produces some cocoa, cedar and pepper notes according to reviews.

Ortega Mini Cigar Flavor Profile: As Good As Larger Sticks, Just Shorter

The first third of the Ortega Mini cigar only lasts about 8 to 10 minutes, but is said to be quite tasty. It consists of the same notes detected on the cold draw, with smooth cocoa and cedar flavors running the show. There is some pepper on both the finish and the retro-hale. Near the end of the first third, some reviewers tasted some saltiness in the profile, giving the stick a delectable salty sweet combination.

In the second third, the cocoa flavor fades out completely while the pepper notes move into the throat. The overall profile in this part of the stogie is still sweet, but it doesn’t contain the cocoa notes of the first third. The cedar is still present, and aficionados agree that it is one of the most detailed cedar flavors they have experienced. It does not resemble the classic Dominican cedar taste that many smokers are familiar with.

Pepper controls the profile through the concluding third of the Ortega Mini cigar, even as some creaminess emerges in the background. The pepper, cedar and cream are the finishing kicks on this stogie, which takes about 30 minutes to enjoy. Smaller stogies often struggle with burn and draw, but these maintain a sharp burn throughout, and the draw is good enough to allow a smoker to take their time with the stick.

The Ecuadorian Connecticut Ortega Mini cigar is mild bodied, while the Habano and Maduro are both medium to full bodied. Of medium strength, they provide enough of a punch to stay interesting for experienced smokers. They are sold in three packs, with one of each wrapper, and come in a crush-proof box that is easy to carry around.
