Davidoff White Edition The Davidoff White Edition 2012 cigars were released in the United States on August 01, 2012. They were highly anticipated, as Davidoff has built a tradition, since 1999, of releasing a limited edition smoke each year. The company was founded in Switzerland in 1912 by Henri Davidoff. After spending time in Latin America, traveling and learning about the tobacco business, his son Zeno took over the family business in 1930. And after World War II, the company went from a small shop to a booming business. From the war onward, Switzerland became a haven for wealthy tobacco customers, giving Zeno the idea to come out with signature, rare cigar lines. This idea of releasing limited edition, luxury tobacco products for serious smokers is one that keeps aficionados eagerly awaiting the next release. There are only 8,000 Davidoff White Edition 2012 cigars released worldwide, making them somewhat difficult to come by.

The Davidoff White Edition 2012 cigars are preceded by the 2011 version. There are a few differences that seem obvious and important to smokers and testers: the 2011 version is of a medium-strength. The 2012 version, however, begins at medium-strength and near the mid-way point kicks into full-strength, making it an ideal smoke for enthusiasts.

It is filled with Piloto Ligero, Criollo Visus, Olor/Piloto Hybrid Visus, Corojo Visus, and San Vicente Ligero tobaccos, all of which are cultivated in the Dominican Republic. The tobaccos were takenharvested and aged for six years. They use Piloto binder leafs and dark brown Dominican Criollo wrapper leaves, which add unique aromatic flavors to the smoking experience. The wrappers are silky in complexion and do well in only exposing minimal vein lines and hiding seams well. The construction has even been dubbed “excellent” by some reviewers. The Davidoff White Edition 2012 cigars come in the Robusto Gordo format, being 14.6 centimeters by 5 3/4 centimeters. The diameter is 2.1 centimeters. The pre-light draw sets the stage with grass, hay, sweet and spicy cedar, and a touch of cinnamon; the pre-light draw is not at all overwhelming, and quite characteristic of this company’s overall signature style. Once lit, black pepper notes comes into play, eventually leveling out and getting in line with the opening notes of hay and grass. As a steady palate comes into play, the natural sweetness of tobacco becomes evident. And with this, they evolve from medium-strength to full-strength smokes. In the second half, the pepper tones come to the forefront and even close the smoking experience; though, surprisingly, finishing on a gentle note, rather than harsh. The burn-line stays almost perfectly straight, with few touch-ups and the ash barely flakes off, staying firm throughout the smoke. And of course, many have deemed the burn rate and temperature are both perfect.

The Davidoff White Edition 2012 cigars come in white enameled boxes. Against their dark brown wrappers, their white bands appear vibrant and strong, showing off the classic Davidoff gold lettering. Along with the main band, at the foot of the cigars, there is another band with a mother-of-pearl inscription saying “2012.” With their mix of Dominican tobacco, their rich history of luxury, and rarity, these are well-loved and anxiously-grappled for by tobacco lovers worldwide.
