Buy Cusano 15th Anniversary Cigars OnlineThe Cusano 15th Anniversary cigars were nearly invisible to aficionados around the time of their launch. Though it was revealed at the 2010 IPCPR, the company didn’t even feature the smoke on their website at the time. It didn’t help that the brand’s boutique status made it difficult to find info on the blend either. In addition, the company was acquired by Dom Rey around the same time, clouding any release news concerning this blend. However, even though it was a bit of a wallflower, this stogie stands out with its impressive flavors.

This blend consists of an Ecuadorian Hybrid wrapper, a binder from the Dominican and fillers from Nicaragua and the Dominican
. It has a rustic look and feel, the medium brown wrapper laced with some chunky veins and a bit of tooth. The band is simple and features the name of the stogie in cursive black lettering on a dull, gold background. It is only available in a single vitola, a Lancero (7 x 40). The prelight notes consist of some espresso, fruit, sweet grass and barnyard. Some reviewers also detected some nuttiness and a unique taste of wasabi.

The initial third of the Cusano 15th Anniversary cigars starts off with a powerful earth flavor that takes on some sweet qualities. In the first inch, the earth is backed up by some slight espresso and barnyard notes, but this shifts as the flavors develop a bit. By the end of the first-third, the sweet earth taste has mellowed out a bit and is challenged by a cedar flavor that grows in strength over time. Some reviewers also detected some grass and citrus notes, but these were only tertiary.

During the second-third, the flavors are shuffled around quite a bit. Instead of strong earth notes dominating the foreground, a nutty flavor emerges as the dominant taste. The background is filled out with some coffee bean and oak notes, but reviewers found that they were modified slightly by the presence of the nutty flavors. It’s like every note has a slight nuttiness to it. In short, this is the ideal blend for a person who enjoys nutty flavors.

In the final third of the Cusano 15th Anniversary cigars, the flavors all settle down a bit, with some toast and oak notes taking control of the profile
. The finish and retrohale also produce some sharp grass and herb notes, giving the smoke a nice contrast between calm and punchy. The stogie introduces some coffee and pepper flavors close to the nub, and these give the stick an extra bit of complexity around the nub.

This blend comes in at medium to full in strength and complexity, so it is definitely for an experienced smoker. The burn and draw are both great, so it smokes at an even temperature and at a steady speed. Some reviewers believe that a little time in the humidor can really improve the blend’s complexity, so aficionados who enjoy a thick smoke may want to stash these away for a while. The impatient smoker will still find much to like with this blend, with great flavors and rock solid performance.
