Find CAO Flathead Carb Cigar Reviews OnlineReminiscent of 1950’s muscle cars and pin-ups of beautiful girls, CAO Flathead cigars are an ode to nostalgic Americana. The brand manager of General Cigar Company developed the concept for these smokes after a conversation with a fellow designer that led them both to the conclusion that cars, girls, and cigars were a winning combination.

Beginning with an illustration of a nostalgic pin-up girl and a classic hot-rod, this offering is tightly styled and designed to appeal to the eyes, particularly those who are partial to the glory of the bygone hot-rod era. The box itself is and sleek and silver, with the outline of a flathead V8 drawn on the side. The lid varies in color with each size, but all have the CAO Flathead cigars logo emblazoned amid silver stripes. Each box includes a flysheet of a pin-up girl that is designed to be a collectible.

Each size has a different color of band that matches the box lid.

The Flathead line is made in Nicaragua, at the Scandinavian Tobacco Estelí factory (Scandinavian Tobacco being the parent company of General Cigar). The outside of these smokes are a Connecticut broadleaf Maduro wrapper, which is a shade-grown broadleaf tobacco that is renowned for its subtle flavor, a silky feel, and most importantly, for elasticity and strength. This strength gives the person rolling the stick the ability to stretch the wrapper tightly, which gives a neater, more attractive appearance and extra sheen. It also allows for tighter compaction of the tobaccos within. As a box-pressed stogie, it is sleek and straight on all sides, and like the name says, the head (cap) is flat as well.

Inside, a Connecticut Habano-seed binder is blended perfectly with a thick and chewy Nicaraguan-heavy long-filler that also contains some Dominican tobacco. The first aromas one may encounter are pungent, including bitter espresso, apricot, and some cocoa, but pungency is often a precursor of great things. Notes of chocolate and something reminiscent of chai tea are said to be present in the cold draw, and after clipping, a sweet taste is left on the lips. After lighting, the first third contains more earthy tones. Within the first half inch, there is a bite of black pepper, and a meaty aroma that reminds one of a good steak. Shortly afterward, these flavors are joined by and then toned down by cocoa and coffee. This is a medium to full-bodied smoke, more toward the full side, and as it burns, that is made more apparent.  The ending follows the trend of espresso coffee and bitter chocolate, and the cigar holds a respectable burn line of about an inch or so while smoking.

CAO Flathead cigars come in four different sizes, all named for engine parts, starting with the V554 Camshaft, a 5.5” x 54, followed by the V642 Piston 6.5” x 42, V660 Carb 6” x 60, and the V770 Big Block 7” x 70.
