Camacho and BG Meyer Standard Issue Cigars ReviewsLike other cigars in the Camacho portfolio, the BG Meyer Standard Issue is the latest offering from a “Board of the Bold” member. Famous for penning the TV series, Entourage, Rob Weiss joins other Brand Ambassadors, Mike “Da Bears” Ditka and West Coast jewelry designer to the stars, Matt Booth. Camacho began overhauling the company a little over a year ago, and this stogie completes the transformation to the new “Bold Standard” look and branding of the company.

The brand ambassador of Camacho named the company, BG Meyer, after his Rottweiler, Big. Standard Issue is a five-vitola line of Nicaraguan Puros. Packed in boxes of twenty, each cigar features a paper sleeve with Weiss’ uplifting and motivational words. Aficionados have been waiting for Weiss’ contribution to the Bold Standard, and they claim it was worth the wait. Beautifully constructed, the hand-rolled cigar is a rustic brown Nicaraguan Habano wrapper that has a nice sheen, but is not oily to the touch.   The stogie is a medium strength cigar with notes of sweet cedar and cocoa balanced by spicy cinnamon. The cold draw is fruity with hints of fresh melon and tangy orange. The cedar and cocoa notes are prominent at the start of the first-third, but they mellow while a toasty creaminess settles in. Reviewers noted that from the beginning, there is excellent ash production and even burn line. The second-third is an interesting fusion of mesquite barbeque, avocado, and citrus flavors. Several reviewers remarked how the cigar made them think of long summer days and barbeques with family and friends. The strength ramps up a bit but never quite bowls you over with a full-bodied hit. The final third is when the citrus takes a backseat to the returning cedar and cinnamon. They are joined by new coffee and toasted cream notes. It is like smoking a three-course meal, with a palate-cleansing starter, the main course, and the dessert-like flavors in the end.

It will be interesting to see how Camacho expands the BG Meyer line. Weiss’ freshman effort with the Standard Issue is quite impressive with its unique flavors and look. As a new kid on the block, he will have to earn his stripes, but if he continues offering cigars like the Standard Issue, then he will take the industry by storm.
