One of the most prominent collaborations in the cigar business ahs been the long standing relationship between Pete Johnson and the Garcia family. When Pete first began his Tatuaje brand in the early 2000s, it was Don Pepin Garcia who helped him create one of the most popular cigar lines in history. Since then, each cigar made under the Tatuaje and L’Atelier name has been crafted by the Garcia family. However, one of the first cigars Pete ever released was actually made by someone else.

Known as the Nuevitas, this cigar was originally made at Tabacalera Tropical in Nicaragua. After several changes to the factory, and the growth of the Garcia family’s business, Pete decided to stop production of the Nuevitas in 2007, and have all remaining cigars be made by Pepin. 11 years later, Tatuaje has brought back the Nuevitas, this time being crafted in the My Father factory.

The new Nuevitas is a medium to full bodied, Nicaraguan puro. It is hand crafted using aged Nicaraguan filler and binders and a special Nicaraguan Corojo 99 wrapper, all grown in the My Father tobacco fields. It has tremendous flavor and great complexity, blending notes of pepper, cedar and a wonderful hint of pretzel that is both unique and pleasant.

While I never had the chance to try the original Tatuaje Nuevitas, I can tell you that this one is a fantastic addition to the Tatuaje lineup. Pick up your box of the new Tatuaje Nuevitas right now at Serious Cigars.
