Exactly what would the world be like without cigar ashtrays?  What would we do?

\r\n

\r\n

\r\n

\r\n What DO WE DO when there is none to be found at the table?

\r\n

\r\n

\r\n

\r\n This is the million dollar question of the day.

\r\n

\r\n

\r\n

\r\n No doubt we have all been to those establishments that seem to lack awareness of the basic needs of smokers.  They give us this little place to sit in the corner, or maybe even an entire patio.  But when we need an ashtray, there is none to be found.

\r\n

\r\n

\r\n

\r\n We often wonder at some times if we are being quietly judged.  We probably are.  When we consider that the current media campaigns against smoking have affected all levels of society, we can see how one of the more simple pleasures of life has become complicated and not so simple anymore.

\r\n

\r\n

\r\n

\r\n Well, in spite of the attempts of the multitude to tell you that you are wrong, you are not wrong.  Nor do you have to react to these little “messages” with bad form.

\r\n

\r\n

\r\n

\r\n You can respond quietly and positively to these little challenges of social conditioning not by protesting or walking out of the room, but by simply bringing your own cigar ashtray to the table.

\r\n

\r\n
\r\n That’s right.  With one simple, matter-of-fact act of self-reliance, you can show the world that your life is going quite beautifully and quite well with a cigar in the one hand, and your own personal cigar ashtray advertising your favorite brand or favorite design right there on the table for all to see.

\r\n

\r\n

\r\n

\r\n This is a walk-softly-and-carry-a-big-cigar way of saying you intend to live long and prosper by sheer willpower alone.

\r\n

\r\n

\r\n

\r\n Of course, because cigar smoking is just as much a matter of style as it is of personal enjoyment, you should choose a cigar ashtray that adds an additional touch of sense and sensibility to the calm repose and sheer pleasure of the present moment.

\r\n

\r\n

\r\n

\r\n After all this is your moment, your cigar, your illustrious ashtray.  Period.

\r\n

\r\n

\r\n

\r\n Let’s take a look now at some of the unique designs that will help you state your case for uniqueness, freedom, and your own individualized view of the world:

\r\n

\r\n

\r\n

\r\n Classic Ceramic

\r\n

\r\n

\r\n

\r\n

\r\n Ceramic Car-Shaped Cigar Ashtrays

\r\n

\r\n

\r\n

\r\n Classic Silver Color

\r\n

\r\n This car cigar ashtray fits into the cup holder in your vehicle.

\r\n

\r\n

\r\n

\r\n Porcelain

\r\n

\r\n Porcelain ashtrays look good anywhere you place them, wherever you go.

\r\n

\r\n

\r\n

\r\n Stinky Cigar Ashtray

\r\n

\r\n This ashtray is deep and shaped like a bowl.  Its huge size makes it able to hold a mountain of debris, including ash, cigar butts, matches, even cigar bands.

\r\n

\r\n

\r\n

\r\n If you want to make a statement of TRUE CLASS and show the world just how conscientious smokers really can be, this ashtray is the ticket for you.

\r\n

\r\n

\r\n

\r\n Since people dont want to litter the table, they will very often toss the cigar cellophane and cedar packaging sleeves into the ashtray. Now, with Stinky’s big bowl design, you can smoke all evening without the ashtray spilling over and making a mess.

\r\n Cigar cutters remove or put holes in the caps of cigars before you smoke them.  There are three methods by which  Cigar Cutters can cut a cigar.  One of these is the simple straight cut, which involves simply slicing the end off of the cigar cap.  The other is called the wedge or V cut.  This kind of cut leaves a portion of the cap in place and simply cuts a wedge from the middle of it.  The third type of cut is known as the hole punch.  This actually creates a hole in the center of the cap and lets you to draw smoke through the hole.  You must be very precise in selecting the size of your hole punch.  If you punch a hole that is too small, you will have tar buildup around the edges and it will affect the flavor of the cigar.  Many cigar smokers prefer a cigar cutter to a punch for this reason.

\r\n

\r\n

\r\n

\r\n Straight cuts are typically made by either a single-blade or double-blade cigar cutter.  Both types look like little guillotines.  A good number of people prefer double-bladed guillotines because they say they make cleaner cuts than straight blades.  This, of course, depends greatly on the type of cigar you are smoking, and, to a very real extent, on your own abilities in cutting cigars.

\r\n

\r\n

\r\n

\r\n V-cutters are intended to make even cuts from both sides of the cigar.  They go deeper than double-bladed and single-bladed cigar cutters.  Many smokers often argue that because of this V-cutters are much better to use when smoking heavier gauge cigars.

\r\n

\r\n

\r\n

\r\n All sorts of debates rage throughout the cigar-smoking centers of the world as to which one of these methods of cutting a cigar is really the best method to use.  All sorts of debate also rages over which cigar cutter will take the cap off better than all the rest.

\r\n

\r\n

\r\n

\r\n At the end of the day, we really do not want to argue here.  We simply wish to point out that it all boils down to two very simple things, really.  One is these things is size of the cigar you are smoking.  The other thing is the burn rate at which you wish to smoke your cigar.

\r\n

\r\n

\r\n

\r\n Many of you have been smoking cigars for years now, and you know what your own personal opinions and preferences are in these matters.  We know you can make an intelligent decision about which cigar cutter will work best for you.  Our job is simply to help you find it here on our site so you can obtain your heart’s desire.

\r\n

\r\n

\r\n

\r\n Serious Cigars seeks to give you all the options without taking an official stance on which type of cut—or which type of cigar cutter—is better than all the rest.

\r\n

\r\n

\r\n

\r\n A few of our more notable types and brands include, but are not limited to, the following:

\r\n

\r\n

\r\n

\r\n Single-Blade Cutters

\r\n

\r\n This is the most basic type of cigar cutter.  The Sure Cut single-blade disposables feature a back plate that keeps you from accidentally cutting off the cap of the cigar.  One precision slice will take off just a smidge from the end so you can enjoy a long, satisfying draw.  The prevention of a mis-cut keeps the wrapper from unraveling as well.  The Sure Cut can also be used to cut Torpedo Shapes with 2-3 quick cuts.

\r\n

\r\n

\r\n

\r\n Double-Blade Cutters

\r\n

\r\n Many smokers prefer a double blade cigar cutter because they find it easier to make a cleaner cut.  Serious Cigars has Sure Cut double-blade models, plus a few more styles that you can choose from.  Our Savoy Double Blade cigar cutters are some the sharpest we sell.  Made from stainless steel, each one comes with a leather pouch and carries a lifetime warranty.  They are ideal gifts for the smokers in your circle of friends.

\r\n

\r\n

\r\n

\r\n Davidoff Cigar Cutter

\r\n

\r\n The Davidoff Cigar Knife is one of the most sophisticated tools you can use or give as a gift.  Built like a pocketknife, it is so much more than that.  Its most unique features is the punch cigar cutter that looks like a blade, but features raised circles with sharp edges on the flat of the steel.  You can use any one of these three circles to make whatever size punch you wish simply by pressing the cap against the circle and rotating it to make an incision.

\r\n

\r\n Xikar and Craftsman’s Bench

\r\n

\r\n We also carry cigar scissors, V-cutters, and various punches made by Xikar and Craftsman’s Bench

\r\n

\r\n

\r\n

\r\n Don Salvatore Accessories

\r\n

\r\n Almost one hundred years ago, Don Salvatore began the tradition of hand-crafted humidors.  This endeavor later blossomed into the creation of all types of quality cigar accessories.   Take, for instance, the Havana Draw Enhancer™.  Its pen style has been proven over and over again to be the best way for improving the draw and eliminating the plugs in cigars of all shapes and sizes.  This is because of the Enhancer’s stainless steel shaft designed with angular, diamond cut serrations.

\r\n

\r\n

\r\n

\r\n You can insert the Enhancer in either end of the cigar, and you can make multiple channels on the same cigar.  This not only breaks up the plugs in your cigar, but it also eliminates the tunnel burning that other products often create.  You can also draw the Havana Draw Enhancer Pen Style partway through the stub of a cigar and smoke it all the way to the end without burning your fingers.  The Enhancer fits right into your pocket thanks to its ingenious design and can be carried with you anywhere.

\r\n

\r\n

\r\n

\r\n Golf Ball Markers

\r\n

\r\n You can show your loyalty to your favorite brands with these golf cigar accessories.  These magnetic Golf Ball Markers clip right to your cap or golf bag.   They will not fall off because they are very small and lightweight, and each marker has a strong magnet to hold it in place.  Every marker carries the logo of one of the great cigar brands.  Golf Ball Markers are great gifts to yourself and any other smoker that loves the game of golf.

\r\n

\r\n

\r\n

\r\n Tatuaje

\r\n

\r\n Ashtrays rank among the most important cigar accessories.  Now, in celebration of the world famous Tatuaje cigars, you can recline next to an ashtray that celebrates and compliments this Nicaraguan classic.  These ashtrays are as beautiful as they are practical.

\r\n

\r\n

\r\n

\r\n Wooden Matches

\r\n

\r\n Never use a cigarette lighter to light your cigar.  It is bad form.  Use four-inch matches instead.

Why are Cuban cigars illegal?

Those of you that keep up with current events will know that relations between Cuba and America have been steadily improving. What does this mean for the sale of Cuban cigars in America? And how did we get into this political situation in the first place?

First, a brief history:

-        In 1959, Fidel Castro overthrew the U.S.-backed government and established the first communist regime in the West.

        -        In 1960, the Eisenhower administration began the U.S. embargo against Cuba.

-        In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed off a permanent expansion of the embargo. Interestingly, Kennedy reportedly bought 1,200 Cuban cigars before signing.

The embargo has prevented Cuban goods from being imported or exported between the two countries for over 50 years. It has stifled communication between the people of both countries.

However, there have been movements to re-establish connections between America and Cuba. Obama called for the end of the embargo in March of this year when he said:

“The embargo’s going to end. When? I can’t be entirely sure.”

The matter of “when” is a thorny question. While it is ultimately up to Congress to approve the removal of the embargo, Obama’s words mirror the mindset of nearly 60% of Americans. Considering the popular opinion, some media outlets argue that.

Perhaps because of the difficulty of buying them in the U.S., many cigar aficionados hold a near-reverent opinion of Cuban cigars. Over the decades, the embargo has also created a demand for a product that can no longer be met.

Unfortunately, the answer to this demand is not simple.

When will you be able buy Cuban cigars?

Cuban cigars are still not legally for sale in America. While travel restrictions were recently lessened so that people can enter or exit Cuba on legally sanctioned visits, returning tourists can only bring back $100 worth of “contraband”: alcohol and tobacco. A $100 limit is imposed because it is intended to limit the import of such products for personal use only.

Considering the cost of most brands of Cuban cigars, $100 will not buy you much. This is not going to be helpful for merchants wishing to sell them. Obviously, Cuban cigars will be difficult to find legally or at a reasonable price until this policy changes.

Furthermore, when this policy does change, they will probably still not be readily available. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration will require that tobacco companies submit a description of all ingredients and processes used to make their cigars. The process usually takes hundreds of hours and may keep Cuban cigars out of circulation for at least two years.

It might be well into the 2020s before Cuban cigars are widely available in America.

However, cigar manufacturers are fighting against these regulations. They argue that their cigars are made with pure tobacco and without harmful chemicals. There is a battle of prudence for the public’s safety versus the importance of a free market.

Is there anywhere I can buy Cuban cigars now?

Legally? Not likely. Buying them in person or online is still not legal. Many brands of “Cuban cigars” that you can find in America are actually made in the Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, or China.

For those who think they have struck gold with a merchant who has cheap Cubans (in person or online), pay careful attention to what you are buying; around 80 percent of all “Cuban cigars” sold are counterfeit.

Merchants who claim to have Cuban cigars for sale should be dealt with carefully. Many scammers peddle inferior cigars with fake labels and boxes meant to emulate the look of the real brands. Concerned shoppers across the internet frequently compare cigars in an effort to determine if they have been duped.

A cigar merchant named Ron wrote in frustration about the Cuban cigar trade:

“Speaking of fakes, I bet less than 1 out of 25 ‘Cuban’ cigars that customers come in and show me are genuine. I feel terrible that they spent money on them but guide them to the counterfeit galleries so they can determine their authenticity themselves. I really think that the even the merchants overseas don’t know they are selling fakes. It is a worldwide issue…”.

It seems that, despite lowering tensions between Cuba and America, Cuban cigars are not and will not be available for at least several years.

Will they be worth the wait?

Regardless, when Cuban cigars are finally made legal and accessible in the U.S., will it really matter? Cigar enthusiasts disagree on whether or not Cubans are overrated. The average level of quality across the market has risen as cigar manufacturers around the world have improved their processes. Manufacturers in places like the Dominican Republic, Honduras, and Nicaragua are actually producing more consistent quality product than Cuba.

Eric Newman, the president of J.C. Newman Cigar Company, said in an interview:

"I'm looking forward to the day they can be sold here. There's been this great myth about Cuban cigars, but ours and even our other competitors' are by and large better and more consistent than the cigars coming out of Cuba today."

A final point to consider is whether or not the popularity of Cubans will wane when they become legal. Part of the allure of Cuban cigars is the fact that they are difficult to buy. When they become readily accessible, there is the question of how long they will continue to be held in such regard.

Gallo Pinto Cigars By Guayacan Online ReviewGallo Pinto cigars are produced by Guayacan, a small stogie production company out of Tabacalera Aromas de Jalapa located in Esteli, Nicaragua. Guayacan is owned by Noel Rojas, who is often considered “the little engine that could” due to his determination in getting the business of the ground. His Gallo Pintos are available in five distinct sizes; Churchill (7” x 50), Gordo (6” x 60), Robusto (5” x 50), Toro (6” x 50), and Torpedo (6 1/8" x 52). The collection boasts a Honduras and Nicaraguan filler with a Nicaraguan binder, wrapped beautifully in an Indonesian wrapper. Aficionados describe the stogie as a medium to full body with moments of real strength, so it is not for beginning smokers.

First, the look of the cigar is described by reviewers as tightly wrapped in a gorgeous medium to dark brown Indonesian wrapper
. It is said to have an almost ashy or rustic look to it as if it has been around a while. Aromas such as red pepper and beans can be picked up off the stick pre-light. The name of this stick translates to beans and rice, which is most of the flavor within the stick, with varying spices. Upon lighting, this stick soars with a strong black pepper flavor followed by a soft bread like taste. Enthusiasts also describe the smoke of the stick, initially, as plentiful and quality. Easing past the initial burn there are flavors of rum, spice, molasses, cacao, and bean as the stogie approaches more of a full strength stick. As it ends, it comes to full-flavor with bean, rice, and a combination of the pepper and hints of flavor before. The stick is also described as having an excellent burn with only minor wrapper issues and a strong, tightly packed, white ash. Smoke time is stated to be under two hours.

Many say that the Gallo Pinto cigars are one of the best bargains out there
. It is available as a singleton or in a box of twenty. The box itself resembles a worn, but classic paper with an artistic rooster decal and the name of the cigar in black lettering. Individually the sticks sport no label, only the Indonesian wrapper. Overall, due to their inexpensive nature and relatively high quality the Gallo Pinto cigars are called by many as “must haves”, making them a great every day or on a special occasion.

A Review Of The Hechicera Maduro CigarIn 2014, Grace Sotolongo announced her immediate departure from CLE Cigars right before the Hechicera Maduro cigar was released. As an immediately recognizable and well liked personality in tobacco, the news was met with relative shock and overshadowed the actual release itself. Now, Grace has moved on to her own projects, and Christian Eiroa has continued with the brand. And again, Eiroa has turned to respected Cuban artist Ninoska Perez to create the design of the box and band. The result is a blend that looks as good as it tastes.

The stick is rolled with a Mexican San Andres wrapper, a Nicaraguan binder, and Nicaraguan fillers
. The smoke comes in four formats, including a Robusto (4 1/2 x 50), a Corona Prensada (5 1/2 x 44), a Toro (6 x 52), and Gigante (6 x 60). Right away, the Hechicera Maduro cigar is an attention getter, with a rich espresso brown wrapper that is almost perfectly smooth to the touch. It has a bit of oil coating it, and has a soft sheen in the light. What really stands out, though, is the band, which contrasts greatly with the darker wrapper. It is red, blue, green and gold, and has something similar to a stained glass appearance, with thick lines and flat colors gracing it. It’s the kind of band that is meant to be saved.

The cold draw produces a nice mix of dark chocolate and oak flavors, and these flavors make it over to the initial third once the stick is lit. In addition to the oak, which takes on an aged quality, and the dark chocolate, the profile consists of some leather, barnyard, and earth flavors. Even with the dark chocolate, though, there isn’t much sweetness in the mix. The aged oak and earth notes are the strongest, with the dark chocolate and leather providing the secondary notes. Before long, the barnyard drops out entirely.

During the middle third of the Hechicera Maduro cigar, the oak and earth are still the biggest players, though the oak has taken on a touch of cream as well. The profile also includes leather, dark cocoa, and a bit of coffee. At the halfway point the stick sweetens up, and a black pepper flavor presents itself on the retrohale.

The profile doesn’t make many changes in the last third, with the oak and earth still reigning supreme. The cream fades out slowly, though the sweetness ramps up some. The same collection of dark cocoa, coffee, and leather are still present in the background, while the black pepper remains strong on the retrohale. It’s this mix that the smoke finishes with.

The stogie starts out a bit under medium, but soon gets there and remains at medium throughout
. Reviewers also had a lot of positive things to say about the construction, which was highly consistent between sticks. In all, it’s the kind of stogie that just seems like it was meant to be given a lot of attention, and according to reviews, it is worthy!
