The Serious Cigars Rolling Academy will be limited to 60 students. The Classes are held at our West Loop location in the private members lounge. Each class will consist of 20 students and will last for 2 hours.
We are very excited to partner with Casa Fernandez cigars for these classes. Paul Palmer, owner of Casa Fernandez, will be on hand along with Danger, a level 7 Master Roller. Danger only speaks Spanish so we will have interpreters for those who need help. The classes begin at 11:00AM on Saturday and culminate in an awards dinner to select the overall best rollers from each class.
Class 1 - 11:00AM Saturday February 22, 2014
Class 2 - 1:30PM Saturday February 22, 2014
Class 3 - 4:00PM Saturday February 22, 2014
Cocktail reception and awards dinner begins at 6:00PM
We anticipate that some folks from the earlier classes may leave and then come back for the reception and awards dinner. The reception and dinner will be private but the awards ceremony will be open to the public.
There will be a Casa Fernandez event going on the entire time as well so great deals will be available from there fantastic blends. We expect that you will have visitors that will come by and watch. The class will be broadcast live for anyone to see on the internet.
The cost per person is $125 and includes everything you will need to create cigars and the very nice dinner and cocktails. You will create 10 cigars for you to keep in a commemorative box. You will also be given a personalized Chaveta (cigar knife) and a certificate of completion.
Each student will have their own station set up with all the tools you need to complete the process. You will be rolling 6†x 50 cigars from scratch. This will require you learning how to bunch and wrap. This is not easily learned in a short time but we expect you will be able to create cigars, maybe not the perfect cigars you are used to, but smoke-able cigars none-the-less.
This will be our first attempt at this event so we hope you will help us improve it for the future. We plan on this being an annual event being held in October in the future. We also anticipate extending the curriculum to include blending and rolling more complicated shapes.
When you sign up, you will choose an available time slot and your blend. Once you have chosen your blend, the leaves will be selected prior to the event and will be ready for you at the table. You will not be able to change the blend once you have signed up. It is a complicated process and once it is started, we cannot make any changes.
