Texadelphia - It's all in the name Texadelphia,
for us, is the perfect combination of good food, good drinks and great casual atmosphere.
This is one of our favorite places to both, just hang out and get a quick bite to eat. Texadelphia has been
in this location since early 1995 in a spot that has not been so favorable to
other bar type restaurants.
We think you will feel the same way we do after your first trip to this cigar
friendly Houston restaurant and sports bar.

The main part of the restaurant showing some of the 20 or so
televisions.
To begin, let's visit the deliciously limited menu. It consists
of Cheese Steaks, both beef and chicken, and various sandwiches including a
hamburger named the "No Competition Burger". To be perfectly honest the only
sandwiches I have ever seen anybody order are the Cheese Steaks and occasionally
the "No Competition Burger". All sandwiches are around $5.00 which we
find to be a bargain.
You can of course start your dining experience with a salad, two to choose from,
buffalo wings, chicken tenders, fried stuffed jalapenos or last, but definitely
not least, chips and queso, salsa or guacamole. All starters are in the $2.00 to $6.00
range and can be shared.
If you are a fan of chips and queso you are about to find the Holy Grail. This
is quit honestly the very best queso we can find. There is a beautiful
simplicity to it, cheese and diced jalapenos. Wow, just try it and let us know
if you have a different opinion.
The food at Texadelphia is very simple and to the point, you
will appreciate that when you make your first visit.
Let me explain the name Texadelphia. Every sandwich is served
with tortilla chips and salsa instead of French fries. Strange you say, not
really when you consider the heart and soul of TexMex food is chips and
salsa/queso and everybody knows about the legendary Cheese Steaks of
Philadelphia. Putting both of those together gives the only logical name,
Texadelphia.

The bar inside the main building showing one of the beer coolers.
Are you thirsty? Have you ever been to an icehouse? Texas is
famous for them. An icehouse is unique in that it only serves beer and wine, no
hard liquor. Texadelphia is an icehouse and has over 70 beers from all around
the world and even a few bottles of wine (stick to the beer). Have you ever had Cerveza Cusquena? Neither had we, it is from Peru.
They have all your favorites, both imported and domestic, including a large
collection from several Texas microbreweries. There is always a beer special
and the prices are terrific, ranging from $2.50 to around $4.00 for the premium
imports. There are usually around a dozen beers on tap. Of course you can find
an assortment of non-alcoholic beverages to choose from.

One of the larger beer coolers sporting a wide variety.
During any major sporting event you will find this place absolutely
packed from stem to stern with folks swilling beer, smoking cigars and having a
great time. The are enough televisions for everybody and more are brought out
when the interior patio is set up with a huge tent for the seriously major
events.
While we are speaking of large groups of people you should know that
groups are more than welcome at Texadelphia. A Happy Hour Buffet can be arranged
starting at $11.00 per person which includes including finger foods and non-alcoholic
beverages. If you are interested in something more hearty for your
group try the Cheese Steak Buffet which is $10.00 per person and includes a
sandwich, chips and queso and non-alcoholic beverages. You should also know
that there are other drinks available for your party such as bottled beer
starting at $48.00 per case (24 bottles) and kegs starting at $150.00. The Patio shown below
is generally the spot that groups reserve.
The University of Texas Alumni host many of there events here
throughout the year. They should, it is owned by a Texas-Ex.

A permanently covered patio is in front of the A-frame. This area
can be booked for private parties, it is cooled by ceiling fans and a giant iced
air blower.
Here is a sort of little known piece of information that you should not abuse.
Texas law allows for outside liquor to be brought in to icehouses. Translated,
this means that if you like you can bring you own bottle of spirits and purchase
the mixers from the establishment. My only advice when doing this is to spend
some money at the restaurant and tip your waitstaff well. It is only fair when
they are missing out on the revenue from lost beverage sales.

The main entrance shown from the back of the property. The gray
patio area is huge and covered with a tent when a big event is on TV.
Texadelphia's kitchen is open from 11:00AM until 11:0pm during
the week and stays open until midnight on Friday and Saturday. Do not worry
about getting booted out exactly when the clock tolls, the staff has plenty to do to
prepare for the next day and will let you stay until they go home themselves.
All in all Texadelphia is a great spot to hang out, watch your
favorite team and have some good food. We highly recommend giving them a try.
