The Drew Estates Kentucky Fire Cured Cigar Line Creates A Buzz
Drew Estate debuted a new addition to their My Uzi Weighs a Ton, or MUWAT brand, in late 2013 with their Drew Estate Kentucky Fire Cured cigar. Drew Estate started from humble beginnings and has become one of the premiere Cigar companies in the U.S. in the past 15 years.
The cigar is rolled in Nicaragua at the Joya de Nicaragua factory. Drew Estate is the U.S. distributor for Joya, and they partner on the entire MUWAT line.
When tobacco is fire-cured, it is hung over fires in barns until the color reaches the optimal brown. Various woods are used in the fires, and the flavors of the woods transfer a smoky taste to the tobacco. With the Drew Estate Kentucky Fire Cured, maple, hickory, and oak flavors were fire-infused during the curing process.
The Kentucky fire-cured tobacco is not the only tobacco used in the cigar. It also contains fire-cured tobacco from Virginia and another from a mystery location.
The story of the origin of the cigar is an interesting one. The founder of the company, Jonathan Drew, was touring a cigar factory in the Dominican Republic with two associates. They were smoking another cigar when they noticed a pile of Kentucky fire-cured tobacco leaves. They took the wrapper off of the other cigar and replaced it with a fire-cured leaf. The flavor blew them away, and they immediately loved the combination.
This curing process is very rare in cigars and creates a notably unique smoking experience. Reviewers have mentioned the robust, smoky flavor with distinct hickory notes. Many have mentioned a sweetness to the cigar that blends well with the woody oak and maple flavors. It’s been noted as a well-balanced and interesting cigar.
The Drew Estate Kentucky Fire Cured cigar created buzz for a long time prior to its release. Now aficionados can savor the finished product.
