The brain behind Luba Corporation, which manufactures Capadura Cigars, is Ruth Elizabeth Batista. Ruth was born and raised in the Dominican Republic, near Santiago de los Caballeros, tobacco capital of the world.
Her family had been growing and processing tobacco for generations. As a schoolgirl Ruth helped out at the neighborhood tabacaleras cleaning cigar molds, organizing rolled cigars into bundles and controlling finished cigars.
To raise money for her business studies at the university she worked as PR manager for several tobacco companies, gaining experience about the best tobacco growing areas for the different sorts of tobacco in the Cibao valley around Santiago. Learning how Premium tobaccos have to be fermented, how to create the different blends and what is necessary to roll a technically perfect cigar.
And, of course, she made friends with cigar specialists from all over the world. After getting her degree and moving to the US, Ruth decided to do what she knew best: importing and distributing cigars.
